Glover Teixeira says tests found swelling on Raoni Barcelos's brain after his loss to Raul Rosas Jr. at UFC Vegas 121.

Teixeira, who was in Barcelos's corner, said on his Overdogs Brasil podcast that the way the fight ended had worried the team because it did not look like a normal knockout. Speaking in Portuguese, he said: "It was different because it wasn't a knockout. If it had been a knockout, we're used to that. A fighter takes a shot, gets knocked out, OK, let's take him to the hospital, all right. But this was something that happened out of nowhere, and we started thinking about all kinds of things. Could it have been his heart? Could it have been something neurological? They went in and ran the tests."

"There was some swelling in his brain, so it was a traumatic brain injury and maybe that swelling caused him to black out," Teixeira said. "It was the body's defense mechanism. 'Let's shut this down because this guy isn't going to stop.' His mind was stronger than his body, right? He didn't want to give up."

Rosas stopped Barcelos in the fifth round of the main event in Las Vegas on Saturday 26 September, early on Sunday UK time. Barcelos was taken out of the Octagon on a stretcher, and the UFC said he was taken to a Level 1 trauma centre, where he was stable, alert and responsive. Two days later Barcelos wrote that he was "doing really well".
