Raoni Barcelos says he is 'doing really well' in first message since UFC Vegas 121
Barcelos thanked fans for their prayers and said he will send a video as soon as he can: "I promised a great fight and I kept my promise."
Raoni Barcelos says he is "doing really well" in his first message since he was taken to hospital after his knockout loss to Raul Rosas Jr. at UFC Vegas 121.
Barcelos wrote in Portuguese, in a comment on a UFC Brasil Instagram post on Monday: "Hey guys, I want to tell everyone that I'm doing really well, and as soon as I can I'll send a video to all of you! Thank you so much for everyone's affection and prayers! I promised a great fight and I kept my promise. Thank God and everyone who fought together with me inside and outside that cage."
Rosas won the main event by knockout at 1:38 of the fifth round, and Barcelos left the Octagon on a stretcher. The UFC said afterwards that he was stable, alert and responsive, and Ariel Helwani later reported that he was talking, walking and eating in hospital.
Rosas said on The Ariel Helwani Show on Monday that he had messaged Barcelos but had not heard back, and that he had learned through the UFC that Barcelos was doing okay. He also said that for a moment after the knockout he did not know whether Barcelos was alive, until he checked that he was breathing.
