Shakur Stevenson was 17 months old when Manny Pacquiao won his first world title

Manny Pacquiao knocked out Chatchai Sasakul for the WBC flyweight title in December 1998, when Shakur Stevenson was a baby. The two could now share the top of a Cardiff bill.

Manny Pacquiao was 19 when he knocked out Chatchai Sasakul in the eighth round in Thailand on 4 December 1998 to win the WBC flyweight title, the first world title of a career that would take in eight weight divisions. Shakur Stevenson, born on 28 June 1997, was 17 months old.

Nearly 28 years later, the two could meet. BoxingScene reported this week that Pacquiao against Stevenson remains in talks as a "double main event" alongside Anthony Joshua against Tyson Fury, on the card at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on 11 December. Joshua against Fury was confirmed on 24 September, but Pacquiao against Stevenson was not part of that announcement. Bout agreements have not yet been sent to either fighter, and Pacquiao's financial package is still being negotiated.

Pacquiao is now 47, with a record of 62-8-3. Stevenson is 29, unbeaten at 25-0 and a four-division world champion. The fight would put the defining boxer of one era against one of the best of the next, on the same night as the biggest British heavyweight fight in years. Nothing is signed yet.
