Five years since Usyk beat Joshua at Tottenham, and Joshua v Fury is finally official
Oleksandr Usyk took Anthony Joshua's world titles in front of a record Tottenham Hotspur Stadium crowd on 25 September 2021. Five years on, Joshua's fight with Tyson Fury is confirmed for Cardiff.
A record 66,267 people filled Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 25 September 2021 to watch Anthony Joshua defend his heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk. The former undisputed cruiserweight champion outboxed him across 12 rounds. All three judges scored it for Usyk, 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113, and the WBA, IBF and WBO belts left with him, Tottenham Hotspur reported.
Joshua lost the rematch in Jeddah in August 2022. Through all of it, a fight with Tyson Fury was talked up and fell through again and again. On the eve of the fifth anniversary of Tottenham, it was made official: Joshua and Fury will meet at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on Friday 11 December, live on Netflix.
A Cardiff date would put Joshua back in front of a home stadium crowd on the scale of that September night in north London, this time against the opponent British boxing has wanted him to face for the best part of a decade.
