Tony Ferguson keeps Misfits title in a 'weird' win, then reveals he lost his mother
Ferguson stopped Mahmoud Sebie in the second round in Miami, admitted he did not know what the fight was either, and said he has been battling through the loss of his mother.
Tony Ferguson kept his Misfits middleweight title with a second-round stoppage of Mahmoud Sebie in Miami on Saturday night, then admitted he could not make sense of the fight himself.
Ferguson won by TKO 42 seconds into the second round, MMA Fighting reported. Ariel Helwani called it "a really weird fight", writing on X: "Opponent just stopped fighting and protecting himself, ref let Tony tee off."
In the ring afterwards, Austin McBroom called Ferguson out: "I'm next for you, Tony, don't retire on me yet ... I want that smoke." Asked about the performance, McBroom was blunt. "It was sh*tty," he told DAZN. "I'm not gonna lie, I don't know what the f*ck I was watching, but hey, he got the W."
Ferguson agreed. "I'm gonna be real with you, I don't know what the f*ck it was either," he said. "I was in the back, still dazed ... it's kind of like in the dream state, trying to figure everything out." He then explained what he has been carrying: "Literally, I just lost my mom probably a couple months ago, so literally I'm just battling through everything I possibly can right now."
"I'm here to box, I'm not MMA no more," the former interim UFC lightweight champion said in the ring, before closing with a warning: "That sh*t is not gonna happen when we fight."
