Shane Mosley Jr came in one pound over the middleweight limit when he first stepped on the scales on Friday morning. He shed it within the hour and his fight with Denzel Bentley is on.
The bout with London's Bentley is chief support to Chris Billam-Smith against Cheavon Clarke at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
Mosley, the American son of boxing great Shane Mosley, stripped and weighed behind a screen at the first attempt but was still a pound heavy. Bentley hit 160lb exactly and stayed to watch his opponent return. Mosley took the full hour to lose the final pound and had to strip again before making the limit.
Bentley said: “He's made the weight now, hopefully rehydrates nice and healthy and we have a good fight tomorrow.” He added that it was not Mosley's first time making middleweight, and that feeling fit and well gave him confidence.
Of the mood between the pair, Bentley said: “That's what makes it a good fight, both of us are confident. We haven't got to be at each other's throats to make a fight. We're both respectful but we're letting each other know I think I'm coming out the victor.” In the main event, former cruiserweight world champion Billam-Smith meets his old amateur rival Clarke. Billam-Smith weighed 199.5lbs and Clarke 198.8lbs.
Both won in Bournemouth in June, Billam-Smith beating Ryan Rozicki and Clarke beating Jack Massey, which set up Saturday's meeting. Zuffa Boxing promoter Dana White said: “CBS and Rozicki was one of the craziest fights I've ever seen and it really put those two on the map now in the boxing scene.”
