Tyson Fury says Deontay Wilder is 'shot to bits': 'It's a dying shame' he has to keep fighting

Fury says Wilder should never have fought again after their last fight, with Wilder set to face cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia on the Fury vs Joshua card in Cardiff on 11 December.

Tyson Fury says Deontay Wilder "shouldn't be in a ring" and called it "a dying shame" that his old rival is still fighting, five weeks before Wilder takes on Jai Opetaia on Fury's own undercard.

"It's silly really, for Deontay's part. He shouldn't be in a ring ... he should not be," Fury told FightHype. "It's a dying shame that this man has to continue to fight when he's shot to bits. He never should have fought again after I beat him the last time, that should've been the end of it. But, needs must."

Fury fought Wilder three times, drawing in 2018 and stopping him in both rematches. He also pointed to Wilder's last fight, against Derek Chisora, which Wilder won by split decision in April. "If you're getting knocked out by people that you should've knocked out yourself then you know, him and (Derek) Chisora looked shockingly terrible when they fought," Fury said. "Chisora is like 145 years old and he was taking Wilder's knockout power shots that aren't there anymore."

He added: "It's a shame because if you'd have matched them two up five years ago, it wouldn't have lasted one round."

Wilder, 41, is 45-4-1 with 43 knockouts. He fights Opetaia, the unbeaten cruiserweight champion, at heavyweight at the Principality Stadium on 11 December, on the card headlined by Fury and Anthony Joshua and live on Netflix. The booking puts Wilder on the same bill as both men in the main event, and Jake Paul has already mocked the matchup, pointing to Wilder's age and recent defeats.
