David Benavidez has said he will sign a three-fight contract once his bout with Michal Cieslak is over, naming Jai Opetaia and Artur Beterbiev as opponents and Oleksandr Usyk as a possibility.
Benavidez, the WBO and WBA cruiserweight champion, meets WBC titleholder Cieslak in Phoenix, Arizona, on 12 December. It is the final fight of his current promotional agreement.
Benavidez told The Last Stand Podcast: “I'm going to sign a three-fight contract after this fight [with Cieslak].” He said the fights with Opetaia and Beterbiev would take place at cruiserweight. He called Usyk only a maybe and said he was a little confused about that one.
Benavidez said: “Those are three great fights that need to happen, and they are going to happen.” He added that he was not naming opponents only to never fight them, and that these were the fighters he wanted.
Benavidez is rumoured to be the next big-name signing for Zuffa Boxing, the promotional group that represents Opetaia and has held recent talks with Usyk.
