Louie O'Doherty has said Michael Gomez Jnr deserved to beat him, conceding after watching their fight back at home that he won no more than four rounds.
The bout ended in a majority draw. One judge scored it 115-114 for Gomez and the other two had it level at 114-114. Gomez left the ring in disgust when the scores were read out.
O'Doherty said: “I've just watched the fight.” He said his personal opinion was that Gomez won eight rounds to four, while acknowledging that the admission might count against him.
He did not accuse the judges of cheating, saying many of the rounds were close and that the officials at ringside had seen the fight differently from him.
O'Doherty added: “So, well done to Michael. Respect, and I have to be an honest man, no matter how much it messes me up.”
