Beneil Dariush done fighting unless he finds 'something special': 'My goal is coaching'
The 37-year-old has told his management and UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby he is not keen on fight offers, after four first-round knockout defeats in his last five fights.

Beneil Dariush says he is done with fighting for now, and that it would take "something special" to get him back in the UFC octagon. The 37-year-old told MMA Junkie on Tuesday that he has informed his management and UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby that he is not keen on any fight offers at this point, with his team now his priority.
"Fighting is a weird thing because I can be in the house but not be in the house," Dariush said. "I'm sure a lot of fighters understand what I'm saying with that. To go back to fighting, I would have to have something special as far as motivation goes. Being a champion was always the goal, and I can basically disappear even though I'm in front of the family. I was willing to do it. I don't know if I'm willing to do it just to fight."
He stopped short of calling it retirement. "Retirement is a weird word. It's like an American thing," he said. "I don't want to be like, 'I'm retired.' Then two weeks later be like, 'Oh, I feel like fighting again.' If the feeling pops up, I'm calling Sean Shelby, or I'm calling my manager and telling them I want to go. But currently nothing is popping up."
Dariush said his diary is full of his fighters' bouts. "Honestly, I don't have plans right now," he said. "My focus is these guys. I've got these guys in November, I've got these guys in December. If I feel like it, maybe next year, but right now, the way the ball is rolling, I've got no complaints. Unless something big happens, I'm not jumping in anytime soon." He said he has had calls about grappling, possibly including RAF, but even that comes second. "My goal is coaching," he said. "If the time doesn't mix well with coaching, I won't even grapple."
He worked Marvin Vettori's corner at UFC 332 in October and will be chief corner for Uros Medic against Kevin Holland at UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden on 14 November, a card scheduled to start at 10pm GMT in the UK. "I went from cornering one to two people to 20 to 25 people," Dariush said. "It was unexpected, but it's been cool and enjoyable." His team still operates under Rafael Cordeiro's Kings MMA banner, and he said an independent team, Dariush Martial Arts, could become official in 2027.
Dariush (23-8-1) made his professional debut in November 2009 and is 1-4 in his last five fights, with all four defeats coming by first-round knockout. Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan were the first two to stop him in that run. Benoit Saint-Denis stopped him in 16 seconds in November 2025, and Quillan Salkilld stopped him in the first round on May 2. Those last two men now meet in the main event of UFC Sydney on February 6.
