Alexander Volkanovski retained his title at UFC 333 by finishing Movsar Evloev, and Petr Yan kept his belt by beating Merab Dvalishvili in the third fight between the pair.
The two championship bouts headed a numbered event in which several results carried significance for their divisions. Lone’er Kavanagh, Alexander Volkov and Aaron Pico all won on the main card.
Volkanovski's win over Evloev raised the question of where he now stands among the best fighters the 145lb division has produced. On a post-fight show, Mike Heck and Jed Meshew discussed his place in that company and debated whether the UFC should match him with Justin Gaethje, with both men vacating their titles. No such fight has been booked.
Heck and Meshew described Yan's win over Dvalishvili as an incredible comeback, and considered where both men go after the trilogy fight, as well as where each champion sits in the all-time conversation for his weight class.
