On this day in 2007: Amir Khan stops Scott Lawton to keep Commonwealth belt
The 20-year-old from Bolton ended the scheduled 12-rounder 32 seconds into the fourth round at Nottingham Arena.

Amir Khan retained his Commonwealth lightweight title 19 years ago today, beating Scott Lawton by technical knockout at Nottingham Arena on 6 October 2007. The stoppage came 32 seconds into the fourth round of a contest set for 12.
Khan was 20 and two years into his professional career. The win kept the Commonwealth title in his hands during a year in which ESPN named him its prospect of the year.
He had entered the paid ranks with a national profile already built. Born and raised in Bolton, Khan began boxing competitively at the age of 11 and won a lightweight silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. At 17, he became Britain's youngest boxing Olympic medallist. He turned professional the following year, in 2005.
The climb continued after Nottingham. Khan won the World Boxing Association title at the age of 22, making him one of the youngest British professional world champions. He went on to box professionally until 2022, a career spanning 17 years that began with the Bolton teenager's Olympic silver and passed through nights such as this one against Lawton.
