The Global Fight League has announced its first event, which will take place at Club Atletico Lanus in Buenos Aires on 18 December.

The team-based promotion will open with the Buenos Aires Gauchos hosting the Miami Monsters. The fighters booked for the card have not been named, but roster reveals are set for Monday.

The date is a second attempt at a launch. The league had announced a pair of events for 24 and 25 May, but both were cancelled before it got off the ground. Urijah Faber, a veteran who had signed with the GFL, later said that Darren Owen and the organisation may have been fudging the numbers on how much money they were actually putting into the project.

In its announcement of the Buenos Aires event, the promotion wrote: “A new era in mixed martial arts officially begins.” It added: “After years of vision, determination, and building something truly different, we are proud to announce the first official event in Global Fight League history.” Owen, a former World Series of Fighting executive, launched the GFL in 2025. Former UFC champions Tyron Woodley, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Anthony Pettis and Holly Holm were among the names who signed with him.

Former UFC title contender Marlon Moraes was recently announced as part of the Miami Monsters roster. The 38-year-old Brazilian, who is 24-13-1, beat Maximiliano Perez by unanimous decision in August. That win ended a seven-fight losing streak that stretched back to 2020 across spells in the UFC and PFL.
