Floyd Schofield won the vacant WBA lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Lucas Bahdi at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday night.

Shortly after the fight ended, Shakur Stevenson posted on X: "A C lever fighter beat a F level fighter!!" He did not name either man, but the post appeared to be about the fight. Schofield had been due to fight Stevenson before falling ill.

The judges scored it 116-110, 119-108 and 115-111 for Schofield, 24, who dropped Bahdi with a left hook in the third round and was himself knocked down in the 11th.

That 11th-round knockdown came as Bahdi stepped on Schofield's foot, but Schofield had also touched the canvas with his knee in the ninth without the referee, Benjamin Rodriguez, calling it.

"I wanted to beat his ass. He hit me with a shot," Schofield said. "Switching southpaw worked seamlessly. Lucas is a power puncher. He's got pop, I was embarrassed a bit, but wanted to get it back."

Bahdi, 32, lost for the first time and is now 20-1. "He had quick feet. Every time I tried to set and swing, he was gone," the Canadian said.

Both men had been out for more than a year while the title was stripped from Gervonta Davis. Schofield's promoter Oscar De La Hoya said he wants him to unify with WBC champion William Zepeda or WBO champion Abdullah Mason, unless the WBA orders a mandatory defence against Jose Valenzuela. "We're excited to unify with anybody," De La Hoya said.
