Derek Chisora has said Anthony Joshua's preparations for his fight with Tyson Fury are going well, after revealing the pair speak every Friday at the end of each week of training camp.
The two British heavyweights will settle a rivalry that has lasted 10 years at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on 11 December. Chisora has fought Fury three times, and he told talkSPORT that he checks in with Joshua by message once each week's work is done.
Chisora said: “I send him a message asking him how it was, and he said 'yeah I'm killing it'. So that is all I need to know, he's killing it. Whatever happens it is going to be an exciting fight on December 11.” Joshua has reunited with trainer Ben Davison for the fight, two years after they split following his knockout defeat by Daniel Dubois. Davison worked in Fury's corner for five fights and was instrumental in helping him recover from drink- and drug-fuelled depression and return to the ring, which makes Joshua's choice of trainer for this fight all the more striking.
Chisora believes Joshua's best chance of beating Fury comes early. He said: “AJ has to knock him out in the first six rounds.” He added: “After that it is a long night, but AJ has the power to knock out Tyson any round.” Chisora questioned whether Fury carries the same power. He said Fury would instead try to raise the pace, and that he has the endurance to keep it up for 12 rounds while throwing a higher volume of punches.
