Carl Froch believes Canelo Alvarez would start a fight with Hamzah Sheeraz as a big favourite, after the Mexican won back the WBC super-middleweight title.
Alvarez, 36, dethroned Christian Mbilli on a unanimous decision. It was his first fight since he lost a unanimous decision to Terence Crawford in September 2025, and it returned to him one of the four belts that made up his undisputed super-middleweight crown.
Sheeraz, 27, has been put forward as a possible next opponent. He vacated his WBO title in September rather than face his mandatory challenger, Janibek Alimkhanuly, and he is a Riyadh Season ambassador.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch said a Sheeraz fight made some sense because Alvarez would not see Sheeraz as a major threat. He said he meant no disrespect to Sheeraz, but that Alvarez would probably be a big favourite.
Froch also looked at the rest of the division. He said: “If Crawford stays retired, there’s really no one at super-middleweight that’s going to give Canelo a tough fight. So maybe that’s the one [against Sheeraz].”
