Luis Hernandez says he could be the 'final nail' in Chris Curtis's career
Hernandez says Curtis is "trying to get some fame" and wants to build his own name first. He also wants to fight again before the end of the year, possibly at welterweight.
Luis Hernandez says he could be the one to end Chris Curtis's career, but he wants to build his own name before any fight.
"He's 6-5 in the UFC. He's almost on his way out," Hernandez said of Curtis on The Ariel Helwani Show. "If I'm the final nail, it'll happen sooner or later. It's going to be for money though. I want to build my name first and then I'll fight him."
Helwani asked whether Hernandez, Curtis and Sean Strickland were all good, going back to what he called "the whole fracas with Chris Curtis and the one and only Sean Strickland" last summer. "Well, me and Sean are good. I don't know about Chris," Hernandez said. "He's coming out of the woodworks. I guess he's trying to get some fame."
"He's on Instagram talking a lot, but I was very respectful," he said. "He just posted something on social media... If he has a problem with me, I guess we could settle it, but I'm looking to grow my name." He said that "if he wants to shake hands in person I don't have an issue with him," and added: "I guess he's trying to get some clickbait off me."
Asked about Strickland's suspension, Hernandez said: "I didn't want him to get suspended... I didn't want him to get anything."
Hernandez, a Miami-Dade sheriff's deputy, submitted Sedriques Dumas on his UFC debut on two days' notice. He said he returns to work on Tuesday and has promised his dad he will take some time off, but has "a date in mind. It's before the end of the year." He wants to fight at welterweight to "make history". Asked whether that could happen in the next few weeks, he said: "I can't confirm or deny, but hopefully."
