On this day in 2010: Crolla stops Morris to win English title
The seventh-round stoppage in Bolton gave Anthony Crolla the first title of a career that later brought him the WBA lightweight championship.

Anthony Crolla won the English super-featherweight title 16 years ago today, stopping Andy Morris in the seventh round in Bolton on 2 October 2010. It was the first title of his professional career.
The fight at the De Vere Whites Hotel was scheduled for ten rounds. Crolla, then 23, ended it at 2:51 of the seventh.
The win came 16 months after the biggest setback of his early career. On 29 May 2009, in a British title eliminator at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke, he lost a ten-round points decision to Gary Sykes, the second defeat of his professional record.
Crolla returned on 25 September 2009 with a win over Jon Baguley, an opponent he had already beaten, and on 27 November that year defeated the former world champion Michael Brodie, who was back in the ring after a long lay-off. Victories over Jason Nesbitt, Sid Razak and Chris Riley followed in 2010 before he met Morris.
The English title was the first step in a career that ran from 2006 to 2019. Crolla went on to hold the WBA lightweight title from 2015 to 2016.
