Robert Whittaker has predicted that Quillan Salkilld will beat Benoit Saint-Denis badly when the two headline UFC Sydney on 6 February, saying "it's gonna be terrible for BSD".

Speaking on the MMArcade Podcast, the former UFC middleweight champion said he was glad to see Salkilld top the bill. "How good to have Quillan headlining to build up the Aussies that are just tearing through ranks, honestly, Aussie fighters are killing it, we're destroying it," he said.

He went on: "Heads up, early prediction, (Salkilld) is gonna beat the breaks off BSD, bad. It's gonna be bad, it's gonna be terrible for BSD."

Whittaker, 35, also said he is getting ready to fight on the card himself. "I'm excited to get back into training, I am preparing for February so I'm gonna start locking in," he said. No opponent has been named for him.

The UFC announced the lightweight main event on Tuesday for the Afterpay Arena. Salkilld, 26, has won six fights in a row since earning his UFC contract on Dana White's Contender Series, most recently submitting Mateusz Gamrot.

Whittaker last fought in July, when he beat Nikita Krylov in his light heavyweight debut. Beyond the main event and four Road to the UFC bouts, no other fights have been announced for the Sydney card.
