Fabio Wardley weighed a career-heaviest 248.3lbs on Friday ahead of his WBO heavyweight title rematch with Daniel Dubois at The O2 Arena in London on Saturday night. Dubois, the champion, came in at 253.9lbs.
Both British heavyweights are heavier than they were for their first meeting in May, when Dubois weighed 251.75lbs and Wardley 242lbs. Wardley has added more than six pounds since then, while Dubois is just over two pounds heavier.
Dubois won that first fight by 11th-round knockout after getting up from two early knockdowns, taking the WBO title and becoming a two-time world champion. Wardley, from Ipswich, then activated his rematch clause to set up an immediate second meeting, five months after the first.
Wardley said after the weigh-in that the knockdowns in May gave him confidence, and that he needed to make better use of that success this time. He said: “It’s simply seek and destroy.” He added: “Revenge, Fabio Wardley, knockout win.” Dubois said: “I know what to expect. I’m ready to go out there and do my job. I’m ready for whatever comes on Saturday. I’m ready to go to war.” The winner could move towards unification fights. WBC champion Agit Kabayel and IBF champion Filip Hrgovic have both said they are interested in facing either Dubois or Wardley. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua meet for the vacant WBA 'Super' heavyweight title in Cardiff on 11 December, offering another possible opponent, while Murat Gassiev holds the WBA 'Regular' belt.
The rematch is on DAZN.
