Jasmine Jasudavicius says $10,000 Winnipeg fine for 'dip' was really over chewing gum

Jasudavicius says the Manitoba commission fined her after cameras appeared to show chewing tobacco in her mouth against Karine Silva. She says the gum fell out on the mat and officials declined to retrieve it.

Jasmine Jasudavicius says she was fined $10,000 by the Manitoba Combative Sports Commission over what she insists was chewing gum, not dip, during her win over Karine Silva at UFC Winnipeg in April.

Cameras appeared to catch Jasudavicius with dip, a form of chewing tobacco, in her mouth during the fight. The commission was not persuaded by her explanation, and she says the penalty came out of her earnings despite receiving both her show and win money.

Speaking ahead of her co-main event against Erin Blanchfield at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, Jasudavicius told Full Send MMA: “I had gum. They charged me frickin’ $10,000. The Manitoba commission, man. They actually charged me. Check my frickin’ bank account. I was so frustrated.”

The Ontario fighter said her account could easily have been proven, because the gum fell out of her mouth on to the mat during the bout. She said she told an official to go and retrieve it as evidence, and was told the commission would not do that. Jasudavicius said: “Peppermint gum, go check it and test, do whatever the hell you want with it.” The victory over Silva returned Jasudavicius to winning ways after a defeat to Manon Fiorot, and made it six wins from her past seven fights.
