Daniel Dubois will fight in February, with his promoter Frank Warren weighing up heavyweight unification bouts against Agit Kabayel or Filip Hrgovic. No opponent has been chosen.
Warren told talkSPORT: “[Dubois will] fight in February, and we are going to look and see.” Both possible opponents are with Warren. Kabayel holds the WBC title, and Warren said a fight between him and Dubois would be a great unification fight. Hrgovic, the IBF champion, was at Dubois' rematch with Fabio Wardley and wants a second fight with Dubois. Dubois has already beaten him, and Warren said that defeat is the only loss on Hrgovic's record.
Dubois wants a third fight with Usyk. The 39-year-old Ukrainian gave up three sanctioning body titles in June and is considering his options. Murat Gassiev holds the WBA belt, and the WBA is expected to bring back its 'super' title for the fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua on 11 December.
Warren said there were quite a few permutations but that Dubois would be in a big fight. He said: “[Dubois] will be in big fights because he tells me he wants to earn lots of money, and the only way you earn lots of money is by being in big fights.” Warren said Wardley's first priority is time away from boxing and that he will not return until next year. He praised what Wardley has achieved while learning on the job and said he would back him if he fights again. Warren said: “We have had no complaints from him; he took it like a man.”
