Conor McGregor says clip of him laughing after Covington submission is 'false and fully edited'

McGregor says the laugh has been placed at the wrong moment of the Hype show in Rome and that he does not 'laugh at competing men and women'.

Conor McGregor has hit back at a clip of him laughing at ringside after Colby Covington was submitted by Raul Rosas Jr in Rome, calling it "false and fully edited".

The clip was shared on X under a caption saying McGregor "was dying laughing" after the submission. McGregor replied on X early on Wednesday: "This is false and fully edited. I had an amazing and fun time at the show in Rome tonight, as is evident in the clip of myself laughing, however it's placement as if it was at this moment of the show is FALSE."

"I do not laugh at competing men and women. I respect them! Win lose draw! Bravo to all the combatants and thank you!" he added. McGregor did not say what he had been laughing at.

Hype's own 50-second clip of the finish, posted on X on Tuesday night, ends on a shot of McGregor laughing. Bloody Elbow's report of the match said the broadcast showed him "finding the outcome of the match incredibly funny when it cut to him".

McGregor, a teammate of Dillon Danis and a special guest at the show, was at ringside for the Hype main event at the PalaPellicone. Rosas Jr took Covington down, took his back and submitted him with a rear-naked choke in under 45 seconds, having stepped in on days' notice after Danis pulled out.

Covington wrestles Khamzat Chimaev for the RAF Cruiserweight Crossover Championship at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday 14 November.
