David Winiarski gets world title fight against Lorawnt-T Nelson at BKB 63
The Scottish fighter challenges for the super middleweight belt at Foxwoods in Connecticut on Saturday 19 December, on a card that also features Yampier Ramirez defending the featherweight title against Jorge Martinez.
Scotland's David Winiarski will challenge Lorawnt-T Nelson for the BKB super middleweight world title at BKB 63 on Saturday 19 December at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Winiarski earned the fight by knocking out Geraint Goodridge in 63 seconds in a title eliminator at BKB 60 in Newcastle on 10 October, ending Goodridge's unbeaten run. That win came after a second-round stoppage of James Connelly at BKB 54 in Manchester, his first victory since a third-round stoppage defeat to Keiron Harding at BKB 49. He is 5-1 as a professional bare-knuckle fighter, with four wins by knockout.
Winiarski said: “I asked for this fight, and now that I’ve got it, I’m not going to waste the opportunity.” Nelson, a two-division champion, defends the belt in the main event with a record of 10-1-1 and nine knockouts. He has won his last seven fights and finished six of those opponents. In July he knocked out Serob Minasyan in the fourth round at BKB 56 in Los Angeles, having stopped Mark Tiffin in the first round at BKB 53 before that.
Nelson said: “David Winiarski is coming for my title, and I’m going to make him earn every bit of it.” The other title fight on the card puts two unbeaten records on the line, with neither fighter yet taken to the judges. Featherweight champion Yampier Ramirez is 5-0 with five stoppages, while Jorge Martinez is 2-0 with two knockouts and could become a world champion in only his third professional bare-knuckle fight.
Ramirez has already won at Foxwoods, stopping Ash Williams in the second round at BKB 52, and knocked out Triston Harrison in the first round at BKB 58 in Miami. Martinez's most recent win was a first-round stoppage of Ryan Venable at BKB 56.
