Mikey Musumeci beats Bryce Mitchell at UFC BJJ 11 after surviving a huge slam

The UFC BJJ champion won a unanimous decision in a no-leg-lock crossover match in Las Vegas, after a camp that included a dog shock collar and holy water.

Mikey Musumeci beat UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell on a unanimous decision in the UFC BJJ 11 main event at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Thursday night, but not before Mitchell slammed him into the mat.

The match was fought under a gentlemen's agreement: no leg locks and no deliberate guard pulling. Mitchell had called leg locks, guard pulls and "butt-scooting" "gay", and challenged Musumeci to beat him without them, MMA Mania reported.

Musumeci, unbeaten in UFC BJJ with four submissions, took the terms seriously. "I was getting zapped with a dog collar every day from the Tackett brothers if I ended up on bottom," he said at media day. "The dog collar was part of my camp, as was throwing holy water on me whenever I ended up on bottom to get the devil out of me."

It did not stop him ending up there. Musumeci went for leg holds early, drawing boos, before letting go and hunting an anaconda choke and then a guillotine, which Mitchell fought off, MMA Fighting reported. In the third round Mitchell picked him up and slammed him, earning a warning from referee Vitor Ribeiro. Musumeci answered with a takedown and nearly took an arm from the back, but Mitchell survived all 15 minutes.

"It was fun," Musumeci said afterwards. "I'm training MMA now so I like that. I want more MMA grappling opponents." He is training full time at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas, with no date yet for his first MMA fight.

In the co-main event, UFC BJJ light-heavyweight champion Mason Fowler kept his title after a split draw with Nick Rodriguez.
