Ryan Garcia says Floyd Mayweather is prepared to put his unbeaten record on the line against him in a sanctioned professional bout.
Garcia, 26-2 (21 KOs), backed up the claim with a photo that appeared to show a screenshot of the two men on a video call. The 28-year-old admitted he had doubted the idea himself, writing: “Trust me, at first I thought this was bullshit.” A sanctioned fight would put Mayweather's 50-0 (27 KOs) record at stake for the first time since August 2017, when he beat Conor McGregor, who was making his professional boxing debut. For those who do not count the McGregor fight as serious competition, Mayweather's last meaningful test came against Andre Berto in September 2015.
Garcia is not the only name linked with Mayweather. Mayweather recently said he was “guaranteed 110 million [dollars]” for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, who is now 47.
He has also spoken about facing 60-year-old Mike Tyson before the end of the year. Mayweather said: “December we got Mayweather-Mike Tyson exhibition.”
